Lately, I’ve been more and more cognizant of what I say during a massage. I want to make sure each person knows that they are the expert on how their body feels, not me or anyone else.

So when I get questions like “am I super tight?” or “is it really bad?” I try to respond with phrases like:

“It feels more tense than last time, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing—how does it feel to you?” Or…“It actually doesn’t feel that tight to me, but what does it feel like for you? That’s what matters most.”

I want you to feel empowered when you are at my studio because it’s never about what I feel, it’s always about how you feel. Only you can sense when something is not right or uncomfortable. I may be the “professional,” but you’re the expert on your body.
